Hello Parents,
Whether you remain in Oman or travel abroad, please make sure your child is reading each day. Remember they can read ebooks through our subscriptions to Tumblebooks, Pebblego and Raz-Kids. There's no need to haul a bunch of books with you, all you need is wi-fi!
Students are also encouraged to put in some time doing math exercises on IXL. Please note there are links on our blog site to these resources.
Kindly remember that kids are invited to bring in maps and weather photos when school resumes in January.
I hope you all have a safe and restful winter break. I look forward to seeing you in the new year!
Kind regards,
Ms Kelly

January Calendar and some homework...
Hello Parents,
Please check the tab at the top of the blog page for the new calendar.
During the break, please be on the look out for maps for our next social studies unit. We are looking for maps of all different scales and different types of locations. We will be making a map museum in our classroom after winter break.
We we also begin looking at weather after the break. We will be putting together a bulletin board of photos of 1KR students enjoying all different types of weather. Please take some time to look through old photos or take new ones if you encounter interesting weather during your holiday.
Thank you,
Ms Kelly

Our sad chair
Our beloved chair is in a sad state. If anyone is redecorating and has a couch or love seat that needs a new home 1KR would happily accept your gift.

Waste-free Wednesday
Grade 1 students have been learning about ways to take care of the planet. We have been reading books, writing, and drawing about what we can do to help. As a way to be young environmentalists, we are attempting to have a trash-free snack on Wednesday. Please help your child pack a snack that creates NO WASTE.
Our TAISM Community
Yesterday's ES Assembly was the debut of our video presentation of the interviews we conducted during our last social studies unit. Students were very excited to see and hear themselves on the big screen in the Bosch Center. Click here to watch the video!

Money well spent
Today we had a special reader, she used her Kelly Bucks to buy the opportunity to sit in the teacher's chair and read to the class. Nice job!

Let the research begin....
Students in 1KR are on their way to becoming animal experts. Ask your child what he or she is researching. Next week we will use what we've learned to create a short movie using the ipad app "Explain Everything."
Combinations of numbers
Today, students in 1KR used counters to figure out all the ways to make the numbers 5 through 14 and recorded their findings. Ask your child about playing "Two Fisted Penny Addition." This game is a lead up activity for our current mathematics focus on addition and subtraction facts. Next week students will bring home a set of fact triangles to work on increasing their Fact Power at home.
